Assignment 10 Editing

Assignment 10 Editing

Q The assignment for lesson 10 is based on the editing exercise earlier in this lesson. You'll use iMovie, MovieMaker, another video editing program you have, or the youtube video editor to cut two different versions from the footage I've provided. Similar to the sound editing assignment, if your two versions are different, it is easier to write about how the choices you made create different meaning. The goal of the assignment is for you to learn about how meaning is made in editing by doing some actual editing, in addition to watching and analyzing editing in movies and television.

I started with the first video footage (which you have provided) as I have re-named it as Narrative 1 and regarding this particular video footage – I increased its tempo and deliberately changed the voice of the woman to lend the video a more natural touch. Looking at the first video, the overall setting of the video seems very unique and the two characters are somewhat dynamic as they seemingly appear to change during the course of the second video, which I have re-named as Narrative 2. So far as the first scene is concerned the camera’s spotlight is on both the man and the woman – the man is shown to be wearing a white shirt, while on the flip side the woman is portrayed as wearing a colourful piece of cloth. In regard to this, the first video footage assumes a greater significance as this is shown to be a rather symbolic move. The white shirt of the man has a slightly pale, not so vibrant look while the woman in the pink dress stand as a character exhibiting traits like youth and an overall tinge of positivity.
